COLOMBIA WORLD BAMBOO DAY Armenia, Quindío, Colombia

From Ximena Londono – President, Colombian Bamboo Society

On Saturday 18 September 2010, the COLOMBIAN BAMBOO SOCIETY, ICONTEC, CRQ, Guadua-bamboo BID Project and SENA, joined efforts to celebrate during the WORLD BAMBOO DAY a National Colombian Forum about Technical Standards for Guadua.

Colombia is a pioneer country in Latin America in developing Technical Standards for Guadua products and its processes. A total of 80 persons from different cities participated in this one day forum, where eight guadua experts explained the different standards elaborated for the native bamboo Guadua angustifolia Kunth.

To end the celebration of the WORLD BAMBOO DAY, the Major of Armenia, Ana Maria Arango and the BAMBOO FORUM participants planted in a city park several guadua plantlets.

The Friendship Day is also celebrated in Colombia on September 18, so it was a double celebration for this outstanding friendly plant that contributes to improve the quality of life in the whole planet.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE BAMBOO SPECIES IN THE WORLD!!!

AND TO THE PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE IN THEM!!!.
